There’s a book by Elmer Kelton titled “The Time It Never Rained.” As I was thinking about the current situation in which we are living, this book came to mind. In this book, a desperate farmer tries to hold on to his independence and the principles he values.
I LOVE hair—I always have, and I always will. Hair is an integral part of the African-American culture. In Africa, your hairstyle reflects your tribe. In other words, people could look at your hair and determine the tribe from which you belong. I suppose it would not be unreasonable to say that hair is similar to one’s unique fingerprint.
None of us knows what tomorrow holds, but we know what Jesus said--We should live from day to day as we know who holds tomorrow, who by trust will hold our hand.
As you are trying to self-distance and frantically buy supplies, I want you to think about the elderly people in your community and in your life. They are terrified. Many live on fixed incomes and had to wait to buy groceries. They need monthly medications and worry they can’t get them or will catch the virus if they venture out. You know, when people say this is an older person’s virus, that is not so, and even if that were true, can you imagine how they feel? Do their lives not matter because they are older? Our next president will be close to 80 years old, regardless of who is elected. The elderly deserve to live full, productive lives. You do not want a world without our older generation.
What am I proud about? My little town named Olney. Why am I proud of my community? Because the way the people of Olney have pulled together to help support one another in this time of crisis.
