Neva Lou McClatchy

Neva Lou McClatchy, age 97, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Grace Care Center in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at First Baptist Church Olney with Dr. Chad Edgington, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Neva was born on August 17, 1926, in Olney, Texas to the late Clester H. Evans, Sr. and Winnie Mae (Dunagan) Evans. She married Donald D. McClatchy on July 10, 1947, in Olney. After living in Center, Texas for a few years, they moved back to Olney where they embraced the joy of raising three boys in a small town. Don preceded her in death on August 3, 1981. Neva joined First Baptist Church Olney on March 25, 1951, where she served as Nursery Superintendent for several years. She also supported the music ministry by singing in the Sanctuary Choir for many years and rarely missed a Sunday. Neva enjoyed doing needle point, knitting, playing bridge, painting and working puzzles. She also found great joy in traveling to many destinations.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her brother, C.H. “Corky” Evans, Jr., her son, Jeff McClatchy and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Anderson McClatchy.

Neva is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law: Scott and Kobye McClatchy of Olney, Kent and Syndal McClatchy of Olney, and Theresa Mc-Clatchy of Carrolton; her brother-inlaw, George Harris of Dallas; six grandchildren: Mace McClatchy and his wife Celeste of Dallas, Cole McClatchy and his wife Blair of Trophy Club, Michelle Mueller and her husband Seth of Frisco, Meredith Tilton and her husband Ronnie of Bedford, Kaci McClatchy Creel of Olney and Chase McClatchy and his wife Carrie of Olney; eight great-grandchildren: Stella, Evelyn, Wells and Sutton McClatchy, Lane and Jace Mueller, Aria Tilton, Harper Creel, and one on the way, Gracie Joy.
