Wilmar Strader, age 82, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Hamilton Hospital in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Olney, with Chad Edgington, pastor, officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Wilmar was born December 8, 1933, in Lyford, Texas to the late Denzel Talmerage Strader and Carolyn Julia (Quick) Strader. He married Carolyn Joy Turner on May 1, 1953 in Idalou, Texas and they moved to Olney in 2002 from Gainesville, Texas. Wilmar was ordained a deacon in the First Baptist Church at Lyford, Texas and he continued serving on the Deacon Body at First Baptist Church in Olney, where he was currently a member. He served ten years as a Deputy Sheriff Reserve Officer, was a board member of the Buddy Owens Children’s Home and was a board member of the Lyford Gin Association from 1978 to 1994. Wilmar lead Saturday morning Missions on the homeplace for several years. He loved flying and survived several minor crashes, and had fun building his own plane and landing strip at the farm. Wilmar loved sharing stories of his experiences.

Wilmar was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Duana Lamerle Strader Tabor; and two nieces, Denise Michelle Tabor and Cynthia Renee Tabor.

Wilmar is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Carolyn Joy Strader of Olney, Texas; five children: Donald Strader and wife Patty of San Antonio, Texas, Dennis Strader and wife Belinda of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lynn Strader Mahan and husband David of San Antonio, Texas, Phil Strader and wife Natalie of San Antonio, Texas, Pam Searcey and husband Matt of Olney, Texas; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
